Gosh, I’d say the heart of who I am is someone who just genuinely wants to make a difference and have a positive impact on those around me. I truly believe that each of us has been given a unique set of gifts to share with the world, and it’s when we tap into those that we become our best. Speaking more casually (which I’m sure is what you intended), I love being outside in the sun, playing volleyball, going on a good coffee date, and diving into new adventures!
It always looks a little bit different, but, essentially, I get to write all day...which I love! Some of my most common projects include blog articles, native content pieces, marketing emails, organic social media calendars, and press releases. As an agency, we work with a lot of different clients from a range of industries, so though the projects can be similar from day-to-day, the tone of the content is always shifting – which is a fun challenge!
Yeah, I think I have. Or, really, I’ve just always been drawn toward words and communication in general. All throughout high school, and even at an elementary age, I competed in various creative writing and public speaking events. And, so, when it came time to choosing a college degree, it felt very natural to gravitate toward public relations – an industry that is rooted in both writing and speaking. I also grew up with an overzealous passion for gel pens and a good notebook, so that probably explains a lot...
Any project that has a stronger storytelling voice is always a favorite of mine. We’ve recently worked on a series of articles for Shodair Children’s Hospital out in Helena. And, though, writing about the construction of a new building doesn’t sound like it would be fun, it’s been so rewarding getting to learn more about the intentional design, patient stories, and teamwork that has gone into creating such an intentional and hope-filled space for Montana children. If you have a minute, Blueprint of Hope, is definitely worth a read.
Does having a standing desk count? Just kidding, though it is amazing! When I made the decision to come back to Wendt a year ago, I honestly couldn’t put my finger on all the reasons why, but I can tell you that I was pulled toward one overwhelming thought – relationship. The team at Wendt is truly amazing. Every day that I come to work, I’m reassured that I have purpose, I get to live out my passion for writing, and I’m inspired by the people and creativity around me. At Wendt, I get to use my gift to pour out into my city, state, AND region. What’s not to love about that?!
While some content certainly lends itself to more factual writing, I think the most engaging and thought-provoking content almost always revolves around a story. As humans, whether it’s scrolling through social media or searching for our next job, our innate desire is to want to relate – to be seen and heard! And that's often done through shared experiences. My advice as a content creator is to know your brand, find your audience, and then don’t just tell your story, tell theirs!
P.S. If you really want to know what being a content creator looks like, it looks like writing your own Q&A article. 😏
